Fault Management Software - Network Management & Network Monitoring

NerveCenter Preserves your Investment

You have made significant investments in your IT infrastructure. Now let the NerveCenter component of the InfoCenter product suite help you ensure that it is always running at optimal levels to deliver essential business services. Companies that rely on their IT infrastructure to sustain their business turn to OpenService to proactively address issues before they become failures and pinpoint problems for quick resolution.

NerveCenter software running on your choice of hardware performs sophisticated, automated correlations to identify the cause of IT infrastructure impairments and outages. Its combination of root cause analysis, scalable smart polling, and fault storm suppression provides network operators with unique insight into your infrastructure.

This is why a wide range of companies providing internet services, financial services, managed services, ecommerce, and telecommunications use NerveCenter to make sense of the blizzard of alerts and event data pouring from individual devices and other management systems.

One size does not fit all

As today’s IT infrastructures evolve, they are becoming more diverse and complex. That is why “out of the box” solutions can typically meet only 60 to 80 percent of your management needs, leaving a considerable gap. NerveCenter includes the functionality of conventional solutions but is also sufficiently flexible and scalable to fill the remaining 20 to 40 percent of your management requirements.

NerveCenter is a toolkit that enables you to implement your IT infrastructure management practices and policies. It allows you manage critical IT assets the way you need them managed to proactively ensure they are accessible and available at all times.

Complete Visibility into Your Infrastructure

To successfully apply your management practices and policies, you must have access to all the management information available. However, it is also essential to acquire this information without sacrificing your network bandwidth. NerveCenter incorporates a smart polling engine which retrieves additional detailed information only when needed to diagnose a problem. NerveCenter also acquires management information through the use of any of the OpenService InfoCenter Collector Integrations. This allows you to acquire status and event data from a wide range of devices and applications, correlating information from log files, syslog, databases, WMI and many more protocols.

Rapid Deployment and Greater Flexibility

Through a graphical interface, you define your unique IT management practices and polices to NerveCenter’s internal finite state correlation engine. This enables you to quickly set how you want your infrastructure managed as well as quickly adapt to changes in your environment or management requirements.

Among the unique features of NerveCenter is its integrated Perl interpreter. Perl gives users the power to quickly extend NerveCenter functionality to meet the most complex management requirements without having to learn a complicated or proprietary programming language.

Choose how to alert or even fix problems

As NerveCenter correlates a wealth of IT management information from all data. When NerveCenter identifies an issue, it can:

  • Send an email or page to IT staff
  • Send an alert to a management platform such as OpenService InfoCenter, IBM Tivoli Netcool, or HP OpenView
  • Store the information for reporting at a later time
  • Run a script to implement your own solution, including automated corrective actions

IT staff are presented only with actionable alerts to make efficient use of their time. This reduces IT infrastructure costs and improves service availability and performance.

Run stand-alone or in concert with other management platforms

Traditionally, most customers have used NerveCenter to provide a correlation conduit for alerts presented by a network management system such as OpenView or Netcool. However, InfoCenter Version 5.0 brings important new data collection, access, presentation, and output options which make NerveCenter suitable for deployment as the sole IT infrastructure management platform for many organizations.

NerveCenter can be used on its own or integrated with other elements of the InfoCenter suite. For example, NerveCenter can run highly customized threat correlations while ThreatCenter performs all of its built-in security scans in parallel. Similarly, if you need scalable event and trap logging with real-time compliance reporting and long-term data retention, you can integrate NerveCenter with LogCenter, the log management module of the InfoCenter suite. Additionally NerveCenter still has the flexibility to be used with existing management systems as part of a larger best-of-breed solution which will actually help you get more value from your existing investments in management software and provide a common, cross domain/cross technologies analysis layer across the whole enterprise. We invite you to contact us to learn how the InfoCenter suite can meet your requirements for security, network and event management.
