NerveCenter specifically consists of an application server designed to manage network data and an interface to create and manage such applications. The applications work behind the scenes, feeding output to tools like OpenView or NetCool, or to ticket systems; it is not intended to act as an end-user console. Intelligent data collection, combined with finite-state correlation capabilities, allow the administrator a great deal of flexibility. The product ships with a lot of sample applications, but the real power comes when applications have been created that incorporate site-specific knowledge. Where a simple monitoring tool might, for example, report on each of fifteen servers that have become unreachable, NerveCenter might report once that an interface on a router has been taken administratively down in accordance with change ticket XXX, impeding access to fifteen servers. In large enterprises or service providers, the high-quality information results in the solution paying for itself rapidly.

NerveCenter has no competitors in the marketplace today.
