OpenService's ThreatCenter Solution Delivers Improved Security Event Management to Interliant

Westborough, MA - March 17, 2003 - OpenService™, Inc., the leader in Network Security Information Management software, today announced that Interliant has successfully deployed its ThreatCenter suite to monitor the hundreds of firewalls it manages for customers in high-end, complex hosting environments. Proving the tremendous scalability and effectiveness of the solution, ThreatCenter is correlating 19 million security events daily, linking them to network faults in real time, and identifying the 50 to 100 most important threats that require action. Interliant, a provider of managed infrastructure solutions, encompassing messaging, security and hosting, is also using the technology to monitor the health and performance of these firewalls, as well as managing other switches and routers with the same solution.

ThreatCenter is a network security event management solution that makes security teams both more efficient and more effective. It delivers real-time detection and correlation of blended, high-risk network attacks by eliminating false positives, escalating false negatives, and enhancing the entire security system's availability automatically. It identifies the most important threats buried within the data deluge produced by anti-virus, intrusion detection systems and firewalls by embedding OpenService's NerveCenter 3.8 real-time correlation technology. Additionally, it integrates SystemWatch security agents to detect patterns of potential security threats on security devices, automatically execute pre-programmed defensive actions, and manage system and process performance to ensure that security applications and appliances are running properly.

"With the number of devices we are managing, the ability to quickly identify and deal with true security threats is critical," said Mitchell Hryckowian, director of engineering at Interliant. "We have achieved dramatic results using ThreatCenter, primarily because we've fully utilized features that clearly identify those few alerts that require our immediate attention. One of the benefits of using OpenService's solutions is our ability to link network faults to security events in real-time as part of the correlation process. This capability is vital to our ability to scale as our customer base and needs grow, and we add additional security services to our portfolio."

Added Phil Hollows, vice president of product marketing for OpenService, "Standard security solutions such as firewalls and intrusion detection systems are a good place to start, but they don't go nearly far enough. ThreatCenter extends the functionality of these systems tremendously, by taking the huge number of events they generate – in Interliant's case, over 19 million per day – and making sense of them in real-time. Interliant's example proves that with Security Threat Manager, our customers are operating more efficiently and more securely."
